Google Begins Mobile First Rollout
Google announced it would roll out an algorithm change in July 2018 that will impact websites that have not yet enhanced their mobile user’s experience by upgrading to a responsive (mobile-friendly) design. Aptly named ‘Mobile First’ the thinking behind the change is to gauge how well a website facilitates navigation and purchases for those using tablets, and smartphones over desktop computers. What are the consequences? Since desktop-oriented websites are no longer Google’s indexing priority, some key metrics will likely decrease along with revenue. Some business owners may not realize it, but the number of mobile users exceeded desktop users several years ago. Therefore updating your website to accommodate all users is just good business sense.
