When I first started in Internet Marketing almost 15 years ago, I had no idea how to build a successful online business and how to drive traffic. Then I learned about affiliate marketing. I’ve used this myself and I constantly recommend affiliate marketing where it makes sense for certain types of companies. Over the years, I’ve learned some interesting insights and for sure, a unique perspective.
I’d like to share some of the most relevant insights for Affiliate Marketing, if you are thinking about how to make your website more successful.
Dream Big and Make It Happen – if you get too targeted with a small Niche it is very possible that you won’t have enough searches or be able to attract enough interested people. Companies usually have very good success when your product will appeal or apply to a very large audience.
Be Persistent – I handle sales in person, over the phone and by email on a daily basis. Selling your products or services on the Internet is also based on the same concept. You must believe in what you’re doing, always portray confidence, make sure your website is designed to convert traffic, and most importantly be active in your Internet Marketing efforts on a daily basis. Affiliate Marketing holds this true especially, there is a lot of relationship development and you have to be pro-active.
Maximize Your Income – Every single page on your site and such is either an opportunity for you to be marketing your products as effectively as possible, as a general rule of thumb. If you expect people to link to your site and offer your products for sale, you have to make sure you’ve put in the right amount of work so that the targeted traffic that they send you will convert. You only have one chance and if a big affiliate drops you, you may never get them back. Make sure all your ducks are in order first.
Increase your Revenue Stream – Dependent on what you are selling, there will be ways to upsell people with other related products or services. You can do this as a feature or recommended item, or offer special promotions to a completed purchase for other companies. For example – if you sell “shoes” and someone just bought a pair of sneakers from you, and you were sent traffic from a store that sells “socks”, you may want to develop a special offer with that other store who you can offer a special promotion to the person who just bought from you.
Delegate – The one thing we can never get more of is time. There are only 168 hours in a week, and that’s all you have as one individual. If you want your business and affiliate program to be successful is to let other people do some of the work for you. Either give it to people who work with you, who can handle the task correctly, or outsource to a professional Internet Marketing agency (We can help) and I assure you that you will have a much higher revenue stream if done correctly.
A/B Test – Getting traffic from affiliates will be different than SEO traffic or PPC traffic. A/B testing is a very good way to find out quickly which page layouts will work the best. You can read one of my recent articles on A/B testing here.
Do your Due Diligence – There are different types of affiliate programs out there, some will be better for actual products, some better for virtual information, and some better for services. Make sure you find the right one.
